To Cook (or Think About Cooking):

  • Best Ever Sourdough Bread from Renee Pottle/Mother Earth News - This is a surprising amount of starter for two loaves of bread. I'm curious if it will rise. Will report back.
  • How to Grow an Endless Supply of Ginger Indoors from Meredith Skyer/Healthy Holistic Living - I have a poor reputation with houseplants, and yet... this is very tempting.
  • In Vietnam, Pho is a Breakfast Tradition from Amy McKeever/Eater - Pho day or night, it's all good with me.
  • Do Bean Brownies Actually Taste Good? from Marion Bull/Lucky Peach - I have a long-standing distrust of sneaky foods.

To Ponder:

  • Networking in the "Girls' Lounge" by Brooks Barnes/NYTimes - What do you think about women calling themselves girls? Empowering? Infantilizing? Cool? Weird?
  • Office Culture in the Digital Age from Slate.com Culture Gabfest - This whole episode is great (Kendrick Lamar's new album! Dana's Spinal Tap impression!) but the section on the evolving workplace culture was of particular interest to me.
  • Hustle is the Secret by Cybele Sandy/aPhotoEditor - I definitely agree with this: talent only gets you so far, hustle will get you jobs. Tough for introverts like me, but luckily, hustle is a skill that can be learned and practiced. A good read for all creative types.
  • Chained to the Stove: What It's Really Like to Write a Cookbook from Jessica Battilana/Serious Eats - "But, through the process of writing my own book, I've learned that codifying something I do intuitively is frustrating as hell." This is SO MUCH the truth. Also this: "It all matters, and it all doesn't."
